The Kevin Dobson Memorial Food To Life Program is a Meals on Wheels America Affiliate, started on Pesach 5780 (2020) with our first food delivery service to 25 Jewish families celebrating the holiday; they were quarantined in their homes due to the COVID-19 pandemic. At that time we were known as Pirchei Kosher, the kashrus organization from the Vaad of Pirchei Shoshanim of Lakewood, NJ. Later in the year with the development of the Jewish Community Services brand, operating under The Kevin Dobson Memorial Food To Life Program of Pirchei Shoshanim, a 501c3 nonprofit. Pirchei Kosher, a hechsher (certifying agency) and a kosher oversight entity is a vital part of the greater Yeshiva Pirchei Shoshanim rabbinical network. Located at www.yps.college.
Today, this freshly prepared meal delivery and life sustaining program has become The Kevin Dobson Memorial Food to Life Program. Kevin was a SAG/AFTRA lifetime member and volunteer and veteran activist with JWV who entered rest eternal suddenly on Sept 6, 2020. May his name be for a blessing.
Today, Jewish Community Services of Orange County and Los Angeles operates several commercial kosher kitchens and has provided over 200,000 meals to veterans, seniors and those in need. These meals are freshly prepared and delivered to the door of the recipient. We provide meals several times each week, sufficient for the entire week.
Under the direction of former Air Force Chaplain, Rabbi Ari Montanari, and his Lakewood rabbinical team, Jewish Community Services has established a logistical network of drivers, food operations and production that reaches throughout Southern California.
Other services include a free suicide crisis 24 hour hotline, (through The National Veterans Foundation that has been in successful operation for more than 35 years; Certified Veterans Service Officers for benefits, claims and appeals; veterans housing resources; and job placement opportunities.
